ПО АНГЛИЙСКОМУ ЯЗЫКУ

В 9 КЛАССЕ

“A HEALTHY WAY OF LIFE”

Урок-викторина разработан на основе изученного материала по теме «Good Health Is Above Wealth», 9 класс, УМК К. Кауфман, М. Кауфман. «Happy English. ru», издательство «Титул», 2011г.
Тема урока: “A Healthy Way of Life”.

Цель урока: систематизировать и обобщить знания учащихся по теме «Good Health Is Above Wealth».

Задачи урока:

Образовательные:

- совершенствовать умения и навыки практического владения английским языком;

- обобщить лексический материал по теме «Health» и изучить новый в игровой форме;

- обобщить грамматический материала (модальный глагол «should»);

- обучать навыкам работы в мультимедийной среде;

- расширять кругозор учащихся по выбранной теме;

Познавательные:

- познакомить учащихся с основными витаминами и их функциями;

- познакомить учащихся с рекомендациями по ЗОЖ.

Развивающие:

- развивать коммуникативные умения и навыки говорения, аудирования (просмотр видео), чтения и письма по теме;

- развивать творческие способности учащихся;

- развивать память, внимание и мышление;

- развивать умения высказывать свое мнение и делать выводы;

- развивать навыки взаимопонимания и сотрудничества.

Воспитательные:

- воспитывать привычку к здоровому образу жизни:

- воспитывать умения внимательно слушать и уважать мнения одноклассников;

- стимулировать интерес к изучению английского языка, вовлекая их в коллективную творческую деятельность.

Форма урока: урок-викторина.

Оборудование: компьютер, мультимедийный проектор, аудиозапись, магнитофон, раздаточный материал (карточки с кроссвордом, карточки «Health Code», «A Magic Flower»), докторский халат и принадлежности, призы.

PROCEDURE

Warming up. Brainstorming.

T. Today our meeting is devoted to a very important problem. As you know some people are healthy, some people are unhealthy. Health is the most precious thing in people’s life. We can’t buy health, but we can do a lot to keep it. In order to be healthy we should follow some special rules. The series of pictures on the screen will help you to guess what we are going to discuss today.

What can you see in the first picture?
What can you see in the second picture?
What can you see in the third picture?
Now look at all these pictures at once. What do they represent? Can you guess what we are going to speak about?

P. I think we are going to speak about health.

T. Right you are. So today we are going to talk about our health, about what we should do to be healthy and the doctor will give us some advice how to keep fit and be healthy.

Phonetic Practice.

T. But at first we should revise some words on the topic.

T. Look at the screen, please. I will read these words and then you will repeat them altogether.

Health Blood

T. Thank you. Good for you. And let’s have a competition. So you should divide into two teams. Name your teams, please.

PP. We are “Bears” and “Tigers”

So this is your task. There are some words on the blackboard and your task is to find the pair for each word to make the right word combinations. Who wants to come up to the blackboard to do this task?

T. Thank you. Good for you. You see that Tigers were more active and get a card. Let’s go on. Our next competition will consist of different contests. For each contest your team will get some points. The team that gets more points at the end of the competition wins. Are the rules clear to you? I wish you success and good luck.

Questions about health.

T. Our doctor wants to ask you some questions about health.

When should people get up and go to bed? (1)
How many times a day should people clean theit teeth? (2)
What should people do before eating? (1)
What healthy food should people eat? (2)
Whom should people consult to prevent an illness? (1)
What should people do if they have a cold? (2)
What should people do if they have a toothache? (1)
What should people do if they can’t sleep? (2)

T. Wonderful! I see that you know much, and the score is 4:4. Do you know any proverbs about health? We have a very unusual competition for you.

Jumbled proverbs about health.

T. It is called “Jumbled Proverbs”. Each team will get the words for two proverbs about health. And you must put the words in a logical order. Which team will be the first?

T. Take the number of the proverb that you are going to make up.

T. So this is for you.

T. And the same procedure again. Take the sheet of paper with the number on it.

T. And this card is for you.

T. Are you ready?

TT. The first proverb runs “Good health is above wealth”.

TB. The second proverb runs “An apple a day keeps a doctor away”.

TT. The third proverb runs “Early to bed and early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise”.

TB. And the last proverb is “A sound mind in a sound body”.

T. The score is 2:2. Smart, brilliant!

T. Our next task is to find the Russian equivalents for these English proverbs.

1. Good health is above wealth. Здоровье дороже богатства.

2. An apple a day keeps a doctor away. Кушай по яблоку в день, и

доктор не понадобится.

3. Early to bed and early to rise makes a man Кто рано ложится и рано встает,

healthy, wealthy and wise. здоровье, богатство и ум наживет.

4. A sound mind in a sound body. В здоровом теле – здоровый дух.

T. The score is 2:2. I see, pupils, you know English and Russian proverbs well.

And the next task will be given by the doctor.
5. Health Code.

D. Now I will give each team a leafsheet with a list of recommendations which we should follow or shouldn’t follow to be healthy. Your task is to make Health Code. The first team will discuss and tell us what we should do to be healthy and the second team will tell us what we shouldn’t do. I will give you two marker pens so you can tick the right points in your leafsheets.

Get up early and go to bed early

Wash your hands before eating

Smoke

Watch TV too long

Do sports

Clean your teeth twice a day

Sleep enough

Drink Coke

Take a shower

Skip meals

Surf in the Internet all day long

Eat too many sweets

Eat between meals

Eat more fruit and vegetables

T. Are you ready? We’ll start with the things which we should do.

T. And the second team will tell us what we shouldn’t do.

T. The score is 2:2. Great! Good for you.
6. Watching a video fragment.

T. I hope you understand that it is important to follow these simple rules to keep fit. But sometimes people can fall ill. What should they do in this case? Let’s watch a video fragment about people who have some problems with their health. Then you will tell me what they complain and what they should do to recover. (Watching a video fragment).

T. Look at the first screenshot. What does this person complain? What does Bob advise him to do?

7. Doctor's advice.

T. To be healthy you should follow some rules of keeping fit.

T. Some people care much about their health and other don’t follow useful advice and fall ill. Who can help people if they are ill?

P. A doctor, of course.

T. Yes. Sure. Welcome! The Doctor Vit is here, He’ll tell you about vitamins and there role in our life.

D. Lectures about Vit – A,C, B1, B2, B3, B6, B9, B12, PP etc.

T. And now let’s have a game which is called “Svetofor”. Captains, please, come up here, take these cards – RED, GREEN, YELLOW. (RED – stop and think, GREEN – enjoy your meals, Yellow – eat carefully).

The task is: I will show you the pictures of fruit, vegetables and some food. And you try to understand which of them is useful and which is not.

T. Nice. The score is 5:4.

8. Sketches.

T. I see that you know everything about food and vitamins. I think that we can play the game called «Hospital». Both teams prepared some sketches about doctors and hospital. I’ll give you some minutes to concentrate.

T. Are you ready? You are welcome. Bears you are the first.
At the Dentist’s

Student: Hello, doctor! May I come in?

Doctor: Hi! Come in, please. Sit down. What’s your name?

Student: My name is Kate.

Doctor: Your age?

Student: I am eleven.

Doctor: What’s the matter?

Student: An awful toothache, doctor.

Doctor: An awful toothache? Let me see. Open your mouth, please. Wider, please. Your teeth are OK.

Student: Oh, doctor, an awful toothache. I can’t go to school.

Doctor: Oh, you can’t go to school... Now I see. I’ll take your tooth out. Ann, give me my instruments. (Входит медсестра в белом халате, изображающая медсестру, и вносит на подносе щипцы)

Nurse: Is it what you want, doctor?

Doctor: Yes, it is. Thank you.

Nurse: My pleasure.

Student: Oh, doc, what’s that? My tooth is OK. I’ll go to school. Bye, doctor. Bye.

Doctor: (берет в руки щипцы, и обращаясь к зрителям, говорит): A very good instrument for lazy students.

T. Very nice, funny, amusing.

And now you, Tigers. Welcome.

At the Doctor’s

Doctor: Would you like to come in?

Patient: Thank you. (He coughs badly).

Doctor: That cough sounds really very bad. How long have you had it?

Patient: For about two weeks.

Doctor: I think I should listen to your chest and lungs. Breathe in deeply, that’s right, and once more, please. Sit down. I’m going to take your blood pressure and feel your pulse.

You are seriously ill. By the way, do you smoke?

Patient: Yes, I do.

Doctor: You shouldn’t smoke at all.

Patient: Oh, doctor, I’m afraid. What should I do?

Doctor: First of all stop smoking, take regular exercises, eat heaalthy food and go in for sports.

Patient: Thanks, doctor. I’ll follow your advice.

T. Thanks, the story was very interesting. And what is the score? 5:4.

9. Crossword.

T. And the last contest of our competition is the crossword. The first team will try to guess all the words across. And the second team will fill in all the words down.

T. Are you through? Let’s check it up. The score is 4:5.

10. A magic flower.

We have learned much about health, vitamins, healthy food and healthy way of life. And in the conclusion I think the magic flower will help us to see what have you really learned . I will give each of you a colored petal and you will fill in it writing what you do to keep fit. And then you’ll come up to the blackboard and fix your petal round the centre.

T. I’m glad to see that our magic flower is so beautiful and you take care of your health and do a lot to keep fit.
11. Conclusion.

T. Our lesson has come to an end. I see that you know much about the main rules of keeping fit. And I hope that you will continue to take care of your health in everyday life in future.Thank you for your work. You were very active today. And now let’s see which team is the winner of our competition. Please, count your points. How many points do you have?

- So our competition ends in a draw. Friendship always wins! My congratulations! You all deserve excellent marks!
