Introduction College is a time to learn, to grow and to explore the world, and many students take advantage of their summer breaks. They have an unbelievable chance to travel and see the world by taking summer jobs abroad. There are hundreds of jobs abroad for students. Students have many reasons to work during their study years. Some need help to pay the tuition fee, some need pocket money or collecting money for traveling. Most of the international students (non-EU) try to work to support themselves or get a work experience abroad. Taking jobs abroad can afford students traveling opportunities that may be difficult to come by later in life; by combining an income-earning activity with a chance to see a new part of the world. If you are looking to explore a different country, or culture, make new friends and have fun, all whilst gaining some valuable work experience and enhancing your skills, there are hundreds of opportunities working abroad. Working abroad has the potential to be challenging, rewarding and enjoyable and life changing experience, which can influence and benefit your future career choices. The experience itself is well worth the difficulties in finding a job. You have the chance to make lasting friendships, meet people from many different backgrounds and nationalities, and get to know the area you are living in. Every day brings something new. And, of course, the money isn’t bad either. Living and working abroad can be a very edifying and life-changing experience that you will never forget. You will learn a lot about yourself and gain an appreciation for other cultures. My friend and I like to travel very much. We would like to take summer jobs abroad some day and have a chance to travel and see the world, develop language skills, that’s why we have decided to take up this topic for thorough investigation. Finding a Job Overseas During your summer break from college or university you might want to consider traveling abroad. A great way to do that is by finding a seasonal job. Working abroad can be very rewarding and affords you the opportunity to live in another culture and visit new places. How to get the first job? If you ever tried to find a job before you know always the first is the hardest. Finding a job overseas can be easy if you know the right ways to find employment before you arrive. With good information in hand, you can have an exciting summer job in an exotic foreign location! There are many ways to find these kinds of jobs. 1. Check out the Internet. There are many websites that specialize in listing seasonal jobs abroad. Looking at these websites will give you an idea of what kinds of jobs are available. 2. Choose the place you want to work and the type of work you want to do. Once you have researched the Internet and know what is out there, narrow your search down to the place and type of job you are most interested in and continue to research. 3. Research books. There are tons of books on the subject of summer jobs abroad, not only websites. The books can offer more detailed information than some of the websites and may be more useful in helping you decide exactly what you want to do. You can buy many of the books online or check out the library to save money. 4. Inquire directly with multinational companies which have offices or affiliates abroad, especially those in the travel and tourism industry (such as hotels). Many of these companies may offer seasonal jobs overseas 5. Ask an advisor or professor at your college. Many departments, especially foreign language, international relations and business may have exchange programs in place or know of available programs that help set up internships or short-term jobs (sometimes volunteer) abroad. You may even be able to get school credit for it. Student Summer JobsStudent summer jobs do not only help you earn extra cash but make your summer holiday an experience to remember. There are many jobs you can undertake. Most summer jobs will be of a part time temporary nature and include all the usual favourites such as bar and restaurant. However the great thing about the summer is that different companies have their peak season especially in the tourism industry so you’ll get to work outside as well. Of course you can go abroad during your summer vacation and there are many opportunities for temporary work during this time. People are still holidaying abroad despite the economic downturn and these overseas jobs are normally advertised from Types of summer jobs available There are many summer jobs available for students and those that hunt them down will have a good 6 to 8 weeks of gainful employment. You’ll see all the major operators advertising online well before the season starts as they have to recruit on time as the season people and provide the relevant training. Club reps – Perhaps one of the greatest jobs is to become a holiday rep so long as your university breaks up on time as the season is quite long. It’s very hard work and you’ll have a long day and be expected to sell excursions and other extras to paying guests as this is where the holiday companies make most of their money. Campsites and holiday villages – there are many camps located in the USA and Europe that need your help and they employ thousands of temporary staff each year. They need help with the hospitality side of the business as well as more mundane tasks like cleaning premises. Cruise ship jobs – perhaps not widely thought .about at first but the cruise industry is huge. There are many cruises close to home that go out for a week around the Mediterranean or Scandinavia. The jobs available are varied from back room staff in the kitchens or cleaning or front of house staff to greet guests and solve their problems to entertainment. Farming and gardening work – there are major farms that need their crops picked and packed during the summer months. Farms also have work keeping their site clear such as cutting hedges and feeding animals and some run a small B&B so there may be work there. Domestic jobs – when the days are long and warm you can easily go knocking door to door where you live and asking people for odd jobs if you are fit and healthy. The most obvious is gardening work but you could also wash cars and clean windows in houses. Work at amusement parks, large hotels. Tourism and agriculture are the biggest recruiters of seasonal summer jobs. Tour guides, catering staff and chambermaids are recruited in large numbers - and then there are the more demanding roles such as karaoke night organisers in Greece and disc jockeys on cruise ships. Construction jobs overseas can offer legitimate wage earning opportunities, even with the current economic crisis in the United States. An au pair system is unique and ideal for those interested in a career in education or childcare. It works as an exchange program where the student travels to another country and provides childcare services for a family in exchange for living arrangements in their residence. Students enjoy this option as it affords them a family life they would not ordinarily get while traveling. They take care of the child or children and are still provided with hours of free time to spend as they wish. Student Summer Jobs in Finland Finland, a country of lush forests and vast woodlands, is finding itself on an upswing after an unexpected recession in 1990-1992. Membership in the European Union (Finland was the first Nordic nation to join the Euro monetary system), a booming timber industry, and success in the information technology industry have helped the nation's economy grow faster than the European average for the past five years. Finland's 800-mile border with Russia, the European Union's only such border, gives it a unique position as a gateway to the east. The country's excellent infrastructure and transportation system (the Finnish rail gauge is the same as Russia's), its geographical location, and its understanding of how to do business in Russia and the Baltic states mean that many foreign companies, including those based in the U.S., use Finland as a base for opening transportation and marketing activities to the former Soviet Union. There are many business organizations, unions, and trade councils in Finland that could prove to be useful resources to the foreign job seeker. An international job seeker has an advantage in Finland's job market: knowledge of a culture other than the Finnish one. Finnish companies expanding abroad need cultural ambassadors. Another possibility is a job as a teacher of your native language. Business associations offer international trainee programs, which could be useful entrees into the Finnish job market. Finland is facing its seventh straight year of economic growth after recovering from the worst recession in its history in the early 1990s. Unemployment is now 10 percent (much better than 20 percent, its high during the recession) and steadily decreasing. According to forecasts, industries expecting high rates of growth in the near future include private services, electronics, telecommunications, real estate management, and the electro-technical industry, among others. A survey by the Finnish Ministry of Labor found that well-trained people with skills useful to the information society are in particularly high demand. Finland is experiencing a shortage of qualified professionals in the electronics and building industries and particularly needs engineers and ADP workers. In fact, a severe labor shortage is expected to be one of Finland's most serious problems in the near future. Some commentators have suggested hiring foreign workers as a solution to the problem, and in September 2000, Finland's leading newspaper estimated that 2.1million foreign workers would be needed by the year 2020. The Finnish government is crafting a more active immigration policy to help address this issue. Summer Babysitting Jobs OverseasSummer babysitting opportunities may allow a babysitter to travel overseas. If you have ever thought about traveling abroad, you may want to become a summer babysitter for a family in a foreign location. There are several ways to obtain a job as a foreign babysitter. You can do an Internet search (for example, you can search for "summer babysitter" "Italy" for numerous sites that can assist you in securing a babysitting job in Italy). If you prefer to work with a babysitter agency that you know to be reputable, then you can contact that babysitter agency for a foreign placement. You can become a babysitter in countries such as Germany, Austria, Sweden, Spain, Portugal, Italy, France, Belgium, Australia, or England. If you live outside of the United States, you can travel to the United States to babysit for the summer. To work outside your home country, you will need a work visa, a passport, and a visit to the doctor to ensure that you are healthy. There are many complexities to consider when evaluating whether to work in a foreign country: each country has its own culture, employment expectations, and laws. If you use the services of a babysitter agency, these matters will likely be explained to you. If you intend to secure a foreign job via the Internet, you will need to do your own homework. One of the most frequent questions asked about foreign placements involves travel. If you work with a babysitter agency, the family for whom you will work will pay for your travel expenses and have transportation provided for you during your employment. If you are securing a foreign babysitting job through an Internet search, you can negotiate for your employer-family to assume responsibility for your transportation. If you have to pay for your own travel expenses, you should think twice about taking the position. Conclusion To sum up, we would like to point out that student summer jobs are not only help you earn extra cash but make your summer holiday an experience to remember. Even a short time spent working abroad can be extremely valuable. Living abroad changes most people - making them more confident, less dependent on families and more broad-minded. Working abroad can demonstrate your ability to a future employer, showing them you have developed and improved key skills, for examples: self- motivation, flexibility, easy to adapt to new changes and situations, good at meeting people/ networking, using your own initiative, develop your language skills.
