But today we’ll travel to the most famous sights of London. You should be very attentive today and at the end of our lesson you will have a test “How well do you know London?” 1) But first we must train our tongues. As you know, each country has its own proverbs. The proverb is wisdom which goes from generation to generation. - What role do the proverbs play in our language? P: Proverbs make language more beautiful, more alive. T: Good for you. On the table you can see cards with the English proverbs. Please, find the other half of the English proverbs. You have 1 minute. After that I’ll say Russian equivalent of these proverbs and you show me the cards with this proverb. An Englishman’s houseis best. East or West homelike home. There is no placeis his castle. Учитель произносит пословицу по-русски, все дети показывают карточки с этой пословицей и кто-то из детей читает. T: Now we can look at these proverbs on the board and let’s read these sentences together. Listen and repeat after me! (читаем хором) Ok! That’s right. Let’s read the motto of our lesson “It’s better to see something once then to hear about it a hundred times”. Please, give a Russian proverb to these words. («Лучше один раз увидеть, чем сто раз услышать») That’s why today at the lesson we’ll try to do so. 2) But first of all let’s name the main London’s sights. Many English kings and queens are buried there. Westminster Abbey is famous for its Poets’ Corner too. Many great writers are buried there. P8: Now we are at Buckingham Palace which is the official London residence of her Majesty the Queen and is one of the best known symbols of the British monarchy. There’re 600 rooms and 3 miles of red carpet. On great occasions it takes 3 days to lay the table and 3 days to do the washing up. The Queen Victoria Memorial is in front of the Palace.
