THE LEGEND ABOUT ST. VALENTINE “This is the legend of how St. Valentine’s Day began. When the Roman Emperor Claudius 2 needed soldiers, he made a law against marrying because he felt that marriage made men want to stay at home instead of fighting wars. But at that time there was a kindly priest named Valentine. He couldn’t agree with the emperor’s decision. When he saw that young couples were truly in love, he married them secretly”. Now I want you to show us some scenes about love. Let’s act out dramas “The first meeting”.

A girl: Oh, no. this bus is going in the opposite direction. You’ll have to take a 15. A boy: Can you tell me where to get off? A girl: Certainly. I can tell you the way, because I live near the central square. A boy: Is it far to walk from here? A girl: Oh, no. It is no distance at all. I usually go there on foot, but it’s raining now and I have no umbrella. A boy: I have. Can I offer it to you? A girl: Thank you very much. You are very kind. A boy: I’m ……… A girl: I’m ………. A boy: Well, ………..let’s have a walk together. I don’t think the rain will last. A girl: The weather forecast says there will be little change, so I believe we may have a fine weekend. A boy: Splendid! A fine weekend is just what we all need, don’t we? By the way, what do you feel like doing this weekend,………….? A girl: This weekend? Let me think… ПРИЛОЖЕНИЕ TOM GETS ACQUAINTED WITH BECKY Persons:
Place: a classroom (Mr Dobbins conducts a lesson. The pupils sit at their desks. The only vacant place is on the girls’ side of the classroom. A knock on the door is heard. The door opens and Tom Sawyer comes in.) Mr Dobbins: Thomas Sawyer! Tom: Sir! Mr Dobbins: Come up here. Now, sir, why are you late again, as usual? Tom: I stopped to talk with Huckleberry Finn! (the teacher is shocked and stares at Tom helplelssly.) Mr Dobbins: You – you did what? Tom: Stopped to talk with Huckleberry Finn. Mr Dobbins: Thomas Sawyer, this is the most astounding confession I have ever listened to. Take off your jacket. (the teacher gives him a hard whipping.) Now, sir, go and sit with the girls! And let this be a warning to you. (Tom sits down on the end of the bench and the girl turns away from him. Tom puts a peach in front of her but she throws it away. Tom begins to draw hiding hid work with his left hand. She tries to see the picture.) Becky: (in wisper) Let me see it. I like this house. It’s nice – make a man. Tom: I’ll try. (Draws and gives the picture to the girl). Becky: It’s a beautiful man – now make me coming along. (Tom continues to draw. Then he gives the picture to the girl). Tom: Do you like it? Becky: It’s ever so nice – I wish I could draw. Tom: It’s easy. I’ll teach you. Becky: Oh, will you? When? Tom: Good. What’s your name? Becky: Becky Thatcher. What’s yours? Oh, I know. It’s Thomas Sawyer. Tom: Yes, that’s the name they call me by when they punish me. I’m Tom when I’m good. You call me Tom, will you? Becky: Yes. (now Tom begins to write something hiding the words from the girl. But this time she begs to see.) Becky: Tom, let me see what you have written. Tom: Oh, it is not anything. Becky: Yes, it is. Tom: No, it isn’t. You don’t want to see. Becky: Yes, I do, indeed I do. Please let me. Tom: You’ll tell. Becky: No, I won’t ever tell anybody. Now let me. Tom: Oh, you don’t want to see! Becky: Now that you treat me so, I will see. (she puts her hand upon his, then Tom lets his hand slip by degrees till these words are seen: “ I LOVE YOU”) Tom (reads): I love you! Becky: Oh, you bad thing! ( She hits his hand, but she looks pleased, nevertheless.) ПРИЛОЖЕНИЕ Meeting and Passing (by Robert Frost) As I went down the hill along the wall There was a gate I had leaned at for the view And had just turned from when I first saw you As you came up the hill. We met. But all We did that day was mingle great and small Footprints in summer dust as if we drew The figure of our being less than two But more than one as yet. Your parasol Pointed the decimal off with one deep thrust. And all the time we talked you seemed to see Something down there to smile at in the dust. Something down there to smile at in the dust. (Oh, it was without prejudice to me!) Afterward I went past what you had passed Before we met and you what I had passed. A POEM BY ROBERT BURNS. O, my Love’s like a red, red rose That’s newly sprung in June. O my Love’s like the melody That’s sweetly played in tune. As fair art thou, my bonny lass, So deep in love am I. And I will love thee still, my dear, Till all seas gang dry. Till all the seas gang dry, my dear, And the rocks melt with the sun. I will love thee still my dear, While the sands of life shall run. And fare thee well, my only Love! And fare thee well a while! And I will come again, my Love, Though it were ten thousand mile. ПРИЛОЖЕНИЕ Valentine’s Day
Do you want to be mine?
The honey is sweet and so are you.
The leaves I give to others, but love I give to you.
But if you make me leave I’m going to get mad.
I choose you from among the rest, the reason is I love you best. |
