ВТОРОЕ ЗАСЕДАНИЕ

13 апреля, 14.30, ауд. 4–307
1. Ш. Кафиатуллин (9ПГ306, English language consultant Т.С. Казымова). Green Building.

Energy savings, higher productivity and less waste. These are but a few of the many attributes towards implementing green building concepts and practices. These days, because of programs like the U.S. Green Building Council's landmark LEED rating system for buildings, the ideas and concepts of green building have now entered the mainstream. Currently, sustainable development analysts have noted that there are around 500 million square feet of green buildings under design, development, and implementation, and there has been a lot of success in LEED applications in different industries and sectors. Despite the rising acceptance in the concepts of sustainable building, there still remains a large challenge toward widespread acceptance and long-term practice, and despite the growing awareness in sustainable practices, green products, and high-performance technologies in building design and construction, many worry that there continues to be a lack of accurate, thorough, and quantifiable information regarding the financial and economic impacts of high-performance buildings within the construction and home building industry.
2. Е. Макарова (1ПЗ101, English language consultant Г.Ш. Гимранова). Traffic problems in Kazan.

The purpose of this article is not to criticize the city and local authorities, but on the contrary, to help them improve the situation on our roads, involving common citizens in making the situation better. Also we would like to popularize the sensible approach to our city lifestyle.

Firstly, we would like to talk about the traffic situation in Kazan in general; secondly, the reasons of traffic jams and, finally, we will finish off by talking about what we can do to make the situation on the roads better.

Well, how long does it usually take you to get to the institute or work? Without doubt, it depends on the fact how far from your institute or work place you live. We have done a survey, asking my groupmates this question because the majority of them take transport to get to institute as well as their parents going to work.

There are a lot of reasons of that awful situation on the roads. However,! let's try to pick out the main of them. Firstly, it is a huge number of cars the Kazaners have. Almost every family has two or more cars. Moreover, every grown up family member can have his or her own vehicle. Secondly, the condition of the Kazan roads is not ideal. Such a factor considerably slows down the speed of the car lines moving along the roads. Thirdly, people have addicted to cars and have become so lazy that they go to the shop around the corner by the car, too. The next essential reason is seasonal natural disasters, such as blizzards, snowstorms, heavy rains, which bring the traffic to a real collapse. Also we should mention the low level of driving culture. Roadwork is the last but not the least reason to make traffic worse.

How to improve the situation? That is the key question. Common citizens themselves should be active in solving this problem, approaching it from different sides.
3. А. Маршева (7ЭН502, English language consultant Э.С. Максудова). Canada’s housing market.

In few corners of the world would a car park squeezed between two arms of an elevated highway be seen as prime real estate. In Toronto, however, a 75-storey condominium is planned for such an awkward site, near the waterfront. The car park next door will become a pair of 70-storey towers too. In total, 173 sky-scrapers are being built in Toronto, the most in North America. New York is second with 96.

When the United States saw a vast housing bubble inflate and burst during the 2000s, many Canadians felt smug about the purported prudence of their financial and property markets. During the crash, Canadian house prices fell by just 8 %, compared with more than 30 % in America. They hit new record highs by 2010. “Canada was not a part of the problem”, Stephen Harper, the prime minister, boasted in 2010.

Today the consensus is growing on Bay Street, Toronto’s answer to Wall Street, that Mr Harper may have to eat his words. In response to America’s slow economic recovery and uncertainty in Europe, the Bank of Canada has kept interest rates at record lows. Five-year fixed-rate mortgages now charge interest of just 2.99 %. In response, Canadians have sought ever-bigger loans for ever-costlier homes. The country’s house prices have doubled since 2002.
4. Р. Фархутдинова (1ПГ105, English language consultant Т.С. Казымова). Photovoltaic roof tiles: design and integration in building.

The integration of photovoltaics into building facades and roof structures can provide a significant contribution to electricity generation. The device has the great potential market in developed countries. Solar tiles operate on the same principle as solar PV panels. The advantage of Solar tiles is that they are manufactured to the same modular size as large format roof tiles.

They can be integrated into a new roof at the time of construction or into an existing roof when the roof covering is being replaced. Solar tiles convert photons of light into electrical energy using a semi-conductor material. When daylight shines onto a solar cell, electrons are released producing an electrical current.

The volume of solar electricity produced depends on the intensity of the light received by the solar cell. Solar tiles require only daylight, not sunlight, and are therefore capable of generating electricity on a cloudy day. Solar tiles are unobtrusive and there is no heat, noise or radiation produced.
5. А. Ермакова (1ПМ105, English language consultant А.А. Хафизова). The Cycles of Economic Development.

Modern society tends to constant improvement in level and conditions of life, which only stable economic growth can provide. However, long-term economic growth is not even, and it is constantly interrupted by periods of economic instability. Periods of successful industrial development and general economic prosperity have always been changed by periods of economic slowdown, which have been accompanied by volume of production decrease and unemployment. Generally, the market economy has a tendency to repeat the economic phenomena that makes it possible to reveal the "cyclic" nature of its development.

Economic cycle reflects the uneven course of the development of economic processes, i.e. the gradual development of the economy can go on not only in a way of direct or uneven growth, but can also be fluctuating, and the latter type is absolutely predominant.

Four main phases of the cycle, which sequentially follow each other, i.e. crisis, depression, recovery and growth are observed.
6. М. Дашкин (0ЭС207, Deutschsprachiger Berater ist В.М. Маршева). Deutsche mark.

7. А. Чумакова (0ЭС204, The English Language Consultant А.С. Кисельников). “Construction” MMM-2011.

MMM-2011 is the pyramid scheme which was launched on January 11, 2011 by Sergey Mavrodi Panteleevich (the founder of the infamous scheme). It suggests investors to buy so-called MMM dollars and wait for him to assign them a new value weekly.

Mr. Mavrodi expects their value to have a growth – 30 % per month for "pensioners and invalids" and 20 % for everyone else, but stressed that this is only his opinion and he could be wrong.

Mr. Mavrodi explains: "There is a virtual currency called MMM dollars which constantly rises in price from 20 to 60 per cent every month. Some individuals exchange money between themselves, without any obligations, guarantees or conditions - it is a fundamental point ".

The feature of this pyramid is the method of cash flows movement. As Aleksey Yaroshevsky (Russia Today) explains in his article: "When there is no legal entity, no joint account, no office - in other words everything is shared between millions of private accounts – it can mean no one determines it".

December 20, 2011 MMM-2011 has been working for 10 months, with over 1.5mln. participants (organiser claims there are more than 10mln. participants), however there is no possibility to verify their quantity.
8. Р. Яруллин (1ПМ108, English language consultant Р.К. Ахметгареева). Seven billion and counting.

If you have been following the news you will know that the world’s population recently reached seven billion.

The statistics concerning human population growth are astonishing. In 1999 the world’s population reached six billion. A century ago, in 1911, there were only 1.8 billion of us: 26 % of today’s total. Scientists who try to estimate the number of people who have ever lived, in the tens of thousands of years since our ape-like ancestors evolved into what we would recognise as human beings, usually come up with figures between 100 and 110 billion. If 100 billion were correct, we could say that 7 % of all the humans ever born are alive today. As for future population growth, it seems there will probably be eight billion people by 2030 and nine billion by around 2050. After that, predictions vary: many experts think the total will rise more slowly, perhaps reaching ten billion by the end of the century; but a few believe the fast rise might continue, leading to a global population of as many as 15 billion by 2100.

Some people already talk of a crisis of overpopulation, expecting there to be wars over access to natural resources and warning that, because those resources are finite, it is impossible for seven billion people (let alone nine or ten) to have the kind of high-consumption lifestyles that people in the world’s richer countries currently enjoy. Others, however, believe the planet can accommodate another two or three billion humans without a social or environmental catastrophe. We can only hope the optimists will be proved right.
9. А. Мияссарова (1ПМ101, English language consultant М.К. Гулканян). Influence of Genetically Modified Products on our Health.

Genetically modified foods (GM foods or GMO foods) are foods derived from genetically modified organisms (GMOs).

GMO is an organism that has been modified by the addition (from the same or different species) or deletion of genetic material, or by some other genetic alteration, to enhance a natural characteristic or to provide one that it does not have naturally.

Nowadays a problem of genetically modified food is widespread all over the world. People worry about their health and the health of descendants, because GM is considered to be very harmful.

GM foods were first put on the market in the mid 1990s. Typically, genetically modified foods are transgenic plant products: soybean, corn, canola, and cotton seed oil. Animal products have also been developed, although as of July 2010 none are currently on the market.

On the one hand, genetically modified food can help humanity to survive; on the other hand, GM food can destroy all of our population. To begin with, genetically modified food brings about allergic illnesses.

It’s too early to make far-reaching conclusions about the health hazards of the GMO. Even scientists insist that there is a need to carry out comprehensive research. I believe GM food will save the situation of great famine, since our population is mushrooming. I find it is good to add that you can find genetically modified food in our usual food, because even in our region of vast farmlands we lack organic food.
10. Р. Нуреев (9ИЗ301, English language consultant А.И. Мустафина). Piercing the sky.

Since ancient times people have always dreamt of becoming airborne. The man invented airplanes, helicopters, and at the same time he began to construct buildings which were getting higher and higher.

First multi-storeyed structures appeared in ancient times. Alongside with the development of civilization and the growth of population in cities and towns construction of high-rise blocks of flats turned to be inevitable since these buildings are not only beautiful, modern and unusual but they also occupy less space and admit much more people.

The report discloses the secrets of the eight already existing highest buildings of our planet – secrets of their architectural and structural design. And in the end we will dwell on the unique projects designed by contemporary architects. Some of them are under construction at the moment, others are still to be constructed. Thanks to these architects and their original works soon we will be able to observe buildings which are one and even two miles high.
11. Р. Илажиев (0ДП201, English language consultant А.И. Мустафина). Sketching Media.

Nowadays designers and artists use a lot of materials for sketching which is often used for presenting an idea and demonstrating an image or which is sometimes used just for recording something that a person sees. A sketch is not a masterpiece, it is a picture. However, the ability to quickly record impressions and express ideas in a graphic form is necessary to execute a freehand drawing which is called a sketch.

Today we have got the following materials that can be used for sketching: ballpoint pens, pencils, coloured pencils, markers, pastel, digital software, and others. All of them have their own specific features and are used for different purposes and for representing various properties of a depicted object.

We have conducted some experiments to get a sense of characteristics and features typical of sketching media which are given in our research work. However, the use of a particular sketching media depends not only on its characteristics and on the purpose a sketch serves but on personal preferences of a designer.
12. А. Нуруллина (1ЭН102, English language consultant Д.Р.Гайнанова). New technologies of bank service.

The use of information and communication technologies and, first of all, the Internet, in the production and sale of goods and services in various fields and spheres of the economy led to a new concept - "neo-ekonomics" or "new economics".

Recently practically all industrially developed, and also developing countries have begun working out and realization of national programs on development of electronic commerce, distribution of the Internet and increase in number of its users. In modern conditions, the development of the bank business is inseparably linked to the automation of bank processes. Here it is possible to single out electronic bank services, such as E-banking (Internet banking), which allows to provide electronic access of clients to bank services. Creation in the last decade of the XXth century of World Wide Web, has given an impulse for the development of Internet technologies of a commercial orientation: internet banking, online - trading, online insurance, electronic payments. The Internet banking is one of the vivid examples of the use of new technologies, allowing to transfer bank services to a new level. This new form of servicing, allows to serve the customers of the bank considerably faster, more convenient and safer than the previous forms. Nowadays, management of bank accounts with the use of the Internet is the most dynamically developing segment of electronic bank business.
13. Р. Абдульманов (1АД101, English language consultant Д.К. Вахитова). Brief history of the origin and development of railways.

We have a very rich history of the railways. “Everything starts with the road”. It is not just a phrase for those who are involved in the process of railway construction and transportation. They know better than anybody else its true value. Unusual concepts, new professions and specialities became the markers of everyday life. The first cast-iron rails were constructed by Yartsev in Petrozavodsk. The length constituted 174 m. The world's first railway line for general use was established in 1825 in England. It was railed between the towns of Stockton and Darlington under the direction of D. Stephenson who was the inventor of the locomotive. The first Russian railroad with steam traction was built in 1834 by the mechanic Cherepanov E.A. and his son Cherepanov M.E.. The length of the road constituted about 1 km and connected the mine and the plant. They also created and the first Russian steam locomotive. The development of capitalism in Russia after the abolition of serfdom and exports of grain increased considerably the construction of railways. Great scientific works and inventions started to emerge in the sphere of railroad construction. They were worked out by Russian scientists and engineers who made a great contribution to the development of railway technology.
14. А. Тазетдинова (0ПГ204, English language consultant О.В. Сергеева) Up on the roof.

From luxury facilities such as helipads and swimming pools to simply a place to hang out with a view, Moskow’s rooftops offer a touch of class. Modern engineering systems allow you to set up patios and gardens on the roof with no danger for safety, while special awnings and heaters make these places cozy.

Access to the roof can be restricted to penthouse owners or individual residents of a building - or available for everyone living there.

A new trend that may catch on is the opening of fitness clubs on roofs. Restaurants and bars on the roofs are also extremely popular. Moskow has plenty of sightseeing spots, and roofs with apartment blocks can also be handy for this experience. Ecologists recommend rooftop gardens. Most greenhouses appear on rooftop terraces in the middle of spring and are packed away again with the first freezing temperatures in autumn. Roofs covered with grass are not only good-looking. Grass helps provide better heat insulation and makes rainwater vaporize, rather than simply go into sewage. This is very good for city ecology.
15. А. Aсадуллина (1АД101, English language consultant Д.К. Вахитова). New generation of building materials in the technology of construction industry and road construction.

The innovation process in the road sector is the embodiment of innovation and as a rule it presents the results of research and development activities in the scientific, regulatory and technical products and patented objects of industrial property. This creates fundamentally new quality products as well as regulatory and technical requirements for its composition, which are then used in the engineering of road projects.

In case of carrying out the research and development plans the evaluation is based mainly upon comparative technical and economic calculations, which confirm the effectiveness of development in comparison with basic (traditional) technologies. The results of evaluating the effectiveness of innovation in the road sector are reflected in the relevant studies and research reports. Effectiveness of the new road technologies and materials (bituminous emulsions, pastes, cube-shaped rubble) is determined mainly by the extension of overhaul life of the pavement, improving the quality of construction and economy of the cost of construction, repair and maintenance of highways.

The road management (namely federal and territorial) is to provide technical management and coordination of innovation activities, further funding, design documentation using the latest technologies and materials with appropriate technical and economic feasibility.
16. Р. Бахшалыев (1ПМ102, English language consultant Э.С. Максудова). Hard talk, soft policy.

The ECB has had one eye on the exit since the start of the crisis it has earned plaudits from those who think the Federal Reserve has been incautious. That judgment is too kind to the ECB, which could afford to have scruples about the medium term because other central banks were taking more care of the present. It is also unfair on the Fed, which had to stand in place of America's collapsed shadow-banking system. When the economy was in most danger, the ECB could have cut rates more quickly. "If the ECB had been more proactive, the recession would, have been less bad," says Marco Annunziata of UniCredit. The striving for consensus militated against bolder action.

Another criticism is that the ECB has not done more to ease credit conditions by buying government and corporate bonds outright, as the Bank of England and the Fed have done. Its scheme to purchase up to €60 billion of the safest bank bonds, launched this month, is modest by comparison. Mr Trichet believes that focus makes sense, as euro-zone businesses and homebuyers rely more on banks than capital markets for credit. In America, capital markets matter more, so the Fed had to get its hands dirtier by buying commercial paper and mortgage-backed securities.
