Форма урока: комбинированный урок. Оборудование: компьютер, раздаточный материал. Ход урока I. Организационный момент T: Good morning, boys and girls. Can you guess the topic of our lesson? Try to reconstruct it from the consonants: “..m..r..c..n m..s….c”… Right you are – it’s “American mosaic”. What is a mosaic? … Yes, it means, we are going to speak about a few different but really interesting items of American life. What is America in your mind? What associations have you got? Ss answer. T: Today from all the variety of things you’ve mentioned we’ll choose three: recalling the history of American jeans, getting acquainted with remarkable trees growing in America – sequoias and discussing some of the distinctions between the British and American English. II. Основной этап 1. “Джинсы.” Закрепление пройденного лексико-грамматического материала (passive voice). T (divides the pupils into 2 groups of 4-6 pupils in each): Your 1-st task now will be to revise the history of jeans and play “Noughts and crosses”: make up sentences in passive voice using the expressions on the board.
2. «Американский английский». Формирование социо-культурной компетенции. T: Our 2-nd stage is learning the difference between the British and American English. a) Before you watch the video do this vocabulary task in your groups: Put the words in the box under the correct heading.
What do you think is going to happen in the video? b) Watch the video “How to understand the differences between British and American English” (To watch the video online, go to: http://learnenglish.britishcouncil.org/en/how/how-understand-differences-between-british-and-american-english) and find out if your predictions from the Preparation task are correct?c) After watching: check yourself using the transcript. Try to role-play the dialogue.3. «Гигантские секвойи». Формирование навыка восприятия информации видео- и аудиоряда с последующим выполнением заданий на понимание, владение грамматическими правилами и межпредметных заданий. T: And now – to have a rest from our busy city life – let’s turn to American nature, to its amazing unique representative – the sequoia. Have you ever heard of sequoias? Do you know what’s unique about them? Watch the video «Giant Sequoia Fall» (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sEnewrCLAM0&feature=related) Your task: Answer the questions (give full answers): 1. When did the giant sequoias fall down? 2. What was the problem with the trail (path in countryside)? 3. What made them fall down? 4. How tall and how wide are the sequoias - in feet and in metres (1 foot is about 30.5cm)? 5. How many people will be able to encompass (обхватить) such sequoia with outstretched arms (1.6m for each person)? 6. What's the age of the sequoias? 7. Did Moscow exist (существовала) when they started growing? Did London? Ss discuss the task in pairs and answer. III. Заключительный этап
