Dear Volunteer!
This training module was created as a part of the Small Project Assistance (SPA) Grant “Preventing HIV/AIDS among Students Living in Dormitories in Odessa, Ukraine,” according to the ABC Guide to HIV prevention and with great input from the staff of Public Movement “Faith, Hope, Love”. While it targets students who have come to the City of Odessa from smaller cities and villages in the oblast and other oblasts to study in higher educational institutions, it can be modified or parts can be used in HIV prevention work with older secondary school students and students pursuing their secondary specializations. Please take a look at it and note the sample informational materials which are included. These materials include those developed by Faith, Hope, Love as part of the project and those distributed to partner organizations by UNFPA. The purchase of condoms under the SPA grant was leveraged by condoms sent to the organization by UNFPA. To find out about an organization working in some capacity on HIV/AIDS, contact the International AIDS Alliance Ukraine through their website at www.aidsalliance.org.
I hope that find the training module comprehensive and accessible. Included are the training evaluation forms and a follow-up survey. The material is in English and Russian, a nod to the fact that Odessa is more or less a Russian-speaking city at this time.

Training Module

on HIV/AIDS/STIs

for students living in dormitories

Goal of the training: Provide students living in dormitories with information about HIV/AIDS, sexually transmitted infections (STIs), behavior which puts them at risk and increases their level of vulnerability to illnesses, and; provide students with psychological and physical tools necessary to prevent HIV/AIDS/STIS among them and other related health problems.

Objectives of the training:

Provide information on HIV/AIDS, sexually transmitted infections (STIs), including means of transmission and methods of protection.
Discuss risky behavior and its consequences, raising the level of awareness of the importance of safe behavior.
Help students change their behavior through carrying out exercises which give them the tools to protect themselves, analyze typical situations, and allow them to analyze risky behavior.
Hand out condoms and provide information on free testing for HIV and STIs.
