Group discussion: Sex and loveDiscussion questions:
Group work: Risky situations (30 minutes) The trainer should divide participants into groups. Each group should be given a situation, to which they must develop a response during 10 minutes, and then each group will have 5 minutes present their responses. Questions for discussion (help for the groups): In each situation, what is the health risk If a person was getting into a risky situation and had access to information about STIs, such as the information you have, would he or she act differently? How exactly would they act differently? How would you act in his/her place? What would be the best response to the situation? What does a person need to do in order to avoid such problems in the future? Situation #1. Tanya and her boyfriend have been dating for 3 years and have practiced unprotected sex for two years already. Suddenly, her boyfriend noticed that Tanya’s behavior has changed. She began going out more “with friends,” and she only answered his phone calls the following day. He began to think that she was dating someone else. What should he do? What can he do? Situation 2. Valery woke up with a terrible headache. He remembered, that after his friend left he continued to drink and “hooked up” with a girl. Only, she wasn’t any girl, she was a professional. He had sex with her, but can’t remember if he used a condom. He didn’t have any condoms with him. What should he do? What should he do now? Situation 3. Alexander loves his wife, but this girl at the club is just so sexy. She is almost naked and her style of dancing leaves nothing to the imagination. It would be great to have sex with her. He is thinking of his wife and he is also wondering how many men this girl has had sex with when his friends are trying to convince him to have sex with her. What should he do? What can he do? Situation 4. Natasha noticed something unusual when she went to the bathroom yesterday and it’s getting worse. She had a one-night stand with a guy she met at a club and she can’t remember if she used a condom because she had been drinking. She doesn’t know what to do. She’s embarrassed and afraid. What can she do? What should she do? Discuss every situation for a few minutes after the presentations Group work: Drugs and alcohol: The advantages and disadvantages of risky behavior vs. safe behavior. (30 minutes) The trainer should ask the audience which types of narcotics they are familiar with. Depending on their responses, participants should be put into groups:-those who are familiar with pill; -those who are familiar with marijuana; -those who are familiar with alcohol. If the type of narcotic is too evocative, the trainer can assign a person to a group, or they can let the participants determine the choice, given that they make the choice keeping “youth” in mind. It is recommended that the group be divided into smaller clusters of 4-5 people Each group, using a flipchart, should use the table below to discuss their points of view and create a presentation. Groups must discuss their narcotic according to the categories outlined below, and fill in the chart according to their knowledge and opinions.
After finishing filling in the chart, each group should present their results. Other groups will briefly comment on each group’s presentation. It would be helpful for the trainer to point out the types of harm listed by groups, especially if a “harm” is listed by more than one group. Question: Who benefits from drug use here in Ukraine? Part 3. From information to behavior change (40 minutes) Informational message: knowing oneself (3 minutes) Knowledge about one’s own body and feelings directly helps reduce the number of risks we take to obtain attention from friends and acquaintances, or satisfy someone else. Knowing ourselves also helps us to: monitor our own behavior so as to avoid putting ourselves in risky situations, choose alternatives to decisions which would result in risk, and avoid accepting others’ dangerous decisions and behavior. We can control only our actions, and, in fact, only we will truly look out for and protect ourselves. To be strong and stick to one’s principles is not very easy. Very few of us can withstand pressure for one reason or another. Often, when we want to say “No!” we are simply unable to determine how to say it. Let’s practice, how to respond to pressure so as to avoid situations which risk our health. Game “ Best answer.” (25 minutes) Do you remember how many times you and those around you have been convinced by someone to do something that we knew was risky for ourselves and our health? It is especially difficult to resist peer pressure when it comes from someone close to us. Through thinking about conversations we’ve had and could have, continually working on our communication and decision making skills, we can get ourselves out of situations which we know could lead to a unfortunate outcome. The trainer should present participants with a list of proposals for having sex without a condom. Participants should write down their answers and share them with the group.
