Ход урока
Greeting: Good morning, my friends, nice to see you!

How are the things today? How are you?
Warming up: Let’s start our lesson. Dear friends, have you ever counted how much time we spend at school and at home studying? I’m sure not. Do you want to know? I’ll tell you, about 1/3 (one thirds). And I think, studying in the 9th form is high time to think about the importance of education in our life, because it’s the education that determines our future life, gives us a wide range of opportunities to succeed in life.

Where does the foundation of your future success lay? Of course, at school.

Can you imagine your life without school?

When you hear the word “school” what do you think of?

“My own school” will you give me your ideas, your associations with this word-

combination.

( pupils go to the blackboard and write down their associations )

Classes, teachers, school sport clubs, homework, subjects,

Students’ books, breaks, friends ………
Have a look at the slide, please, and tell me what are we going to speak about at the lesson?

I Listening Comprehension+Reading

The education system in Great Britain is not easy to understand because it is different in different parts of the country.

1 What types of school are there in England and Wales?

In England about 93 per cent of children attend state schools, which provide free education. The other 7 per cent attend independent schools — private and public schools. Some of these schools are boarding schools where children live and study. If parents want to send their children to a private or a public school, they have to pay for their education. The most famous public schools are Eton, Harrow and Winchester.

For small children, there are state kindergartens, private kindergartens and "nursery classes" in schools, which are optional. Secondary education is compulsory. It means all children must attend school between the ages of 5 and 16. Most children start their education at the age of 5. Primary school may be divided into two parts: during the first two years reading, writing and arithmetic are taught for about 20 minutes a day. There is usually no written timetable. Much time is spent in modelling from clay or drawing, reading and singing.

In Year 3 the "real work" starts. The children have lesson in arithmetic, reading and composition. History, Geography, Nature Study, Art and Music, PE, Swimming are also in the timetable. All schools follow the same National Curriculum. The children attend the primary school for 6 years.

Comprehensive schools provide compulsory education for children between the ages of 11 and 16. Comprehensive schools offer 5-year courses to all pupils; there are no entrance examinations there. Some children enter grammar schools which also provide secondary education. If a pupil wants to study at a grammar school, he or she has to pass the 11+ exams. There are 10 subjects, which all children must study at secondary school, and there are some optional subjects that are different in different schools.

The whole period of compulsory education is divided into four stages. At the end of each stage (Years 2, 6, 9, 11) pupils have national examinations.

IV Summarizing

Dear friends, today we have learnt a lot about the system of education in Britain. We compare it with our education system.

Can we say that one of them is better than another? No.

They may be different or similar but there is one thing that unites all education systems in the world. It is their aim to prepare young generation to future life.
You have worked very hard today, I like it very much. ………
No doubt, it’s not easy to study.

And it doesn’t matter how difficult the process of education seems to be, we must be sure that we shall overcome all the difficulties and everything is gonna be OK, as it is said in the following song. Do You like to sing songs? This one is very positive and motivating.
Let’s sing it together.

I guess there is no chance to die
I can see it through your eyes
I can feel it in my heart
I solve the problems all the time
Forget to sleep scary nights
Avoid to make a compromise

La-la-la-la-la-la
It's gonna be all right

La-la-la-la-la-la
No matter where you start
You cross the sticks for love
I let you give it up
But sorry-it's my life
God, help me to survive!

It's gonna be alright

La-la-la-la-la-la

You live to try for best results
Your forgiveness's everywhere

You struggle'gainst the pain inside
I realise what you can
