Содержание и последовательность работы Задание 1. Переведите самостоятельно текст “My friend” со словарём. MY FRIEND My best friend’s name is Nick. We made friends a few years ago. We are of the same age. We live in the same block of flats, so we see each other almost every day. Nick is tall slender boy. He has got dark hair, large dark eyes, a straight nose and thin lips. He wears spectacles. He is a nice guy. He is very honest and just, understanding and kind. I trust him a lot and I am sure that I can rely on him in any situation. He never lets people down. Nick is only 17 but he is very responsible – he finishes whatever he starts. He has got only one shortcoming. He is a bit stubborn; nevertheless he is pleasant to deal with. Nick is an only child and his parents love him very much. His father is a lawyer. He is the most brilliant man I have ever met. He knows everything there is to know about the law. Nick’s mother is a music teacher. No wonder her son is so talented. He has got a very good ear for music. He likes jazz and plays the piano very well. We spend a lot of time together. We often watch video or listen to music. Sometimes we go to the cinema or to the theatre, or walk around the centre of Moscow, visiting small cafes, museums, art galleries, shops. We talk for hours about all sorts of things (politics, love, teachers, girls). We discuss films, television programs, books. I never quarrel with Nick. But if there is some misunderstanding between us we try to make peace as soon as possible. What I like best about him is that he is always willing to help and share his knowledge, thoughts, feelings. I respect Nick for his fairness, strong will, intellect and modesty. I miss Nick when we don’t see each other for a long time. Without him I would feel lonely and uncomfortable. Our friendship helps me feel strong and sure of myself. Задание 2. Выполните упражнение. Содержание и последовательность выполнения работы: Задание 1. Прочтите и самостоятельно переведите текст со словарём (письменно): THE OLYMPIC GAMES The Olympic Games have a very long history. They began in 776 BC and took place every four years for nearly 1200 years at Olympia, in Greece. Athletes competed in running, wrestling, boxing, jumping, chariot racing and also music and poetry contests. The best athletes from different cities of Greece came to take part in the competition. The winners were awarded with wreaths of palm leaves and proclaimed national heroes. The Games were so popular that all wars were stopped for the period of the Games. In 394 the Roman Emperor Theodosius forbade the Games and the Temple of Olympia was destroyed. It was not until the 19th century that a Frenchman, Baron Pierre de Coubertin persuaded people from 15 countries to revive the tradition of the Olympic Games. Since 1896 the Olympic Games have been held more or less regularly. It is a real honour for a sportsman to become an Olympic champion, and they practice for many years since early childhood to make their dream come true. Not only athletes are waiting for the Olympics, all sport fans are impatient, too. The Games have the most representative sport forum. The aim of the Games is not only to set sport records but also to promote peace on Earth. The Olympic Games give youth a good opportunity to meet and get to know each other better. The latest Olympic Games took place in 2012 in London. Russia took the 4th place among all the other countries. Sportsmen from Russia gained good results and got medals for their records in many sport events. Задание 2. That is one of the things in which people of every nationality and class are united. The most popular outdoor winter sports are shooting/ hunting, hockey and, in the countries where the weather is frosty and there is much snow — skating, skiing and tobogganing. It's so nice to go to the skating-rink on a frosty sunny day. Some people prefer to be out of town in such weather and to sledge or to ski in the woods. Many people greatly enjoy figure-skating and ski-jumping. Summer affords excellent opportunities for swimming, boating, yachting, cycling, gliding and many other sports. Among outdoor games football takes the first place in public interests; this game is played in all the countries of the world. The other games that have firmly established themselves in favour in different countries are cricket, volley-ball, basketball , and so on. Badminton is also very popular both with young and old. All the year round many people indulge in boxing, wrestling, gymnastics and track and field events. Scores of young girls and women go in for callisthenics. Over the last few years aerobics has become popular with young girls and women. Aerobics helps them to be slim, healthy and strong. The interest for it greatly increased thanks to Jane Fonda, a prominent American actress, the founder of this kind of sport. Among indoor games which one can go in for all the year round are billiards, table tennis, draughts, chess, of course. The results of chess tournaments are studied and discussed by enthusiasts in different countries. So we have all grounds to say that sport is one of the things that makes people kin. Most people in Great Britain are real sport-lovers. Even if they don't go in for sport, they like to talk about it. Perhaps, you didn't know, but many kinds of sport have taken the origin in Great Britain. Cricket, football, rugby, tennis, table tennis, badminton, squash, canoeing and snooker were invented in Britain. Britain's national sport is football or soccer. It was played there as far back as medieval times. Nowadays it has become the most popular game all over the world. There is no national football team in Great Britain. England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland have their separate football clubs, which compete in European and World Cup matches. English football fans are fond of most exciting games which are held between teams from the same city. There is a certain type of football called rugby. The game is called so because it was originated at Rugby — a well-known English public school. As well as common football it is a game played by two teams of fifteen players each. The game takes place on a field 100 metres long and 80 metres wide. There are goal posts at both ends of the field. Rugby is played with an oval or egg-shaped ball which can be carried by hands and kicked. The ball is passed from hand to hand in order to be thrown across the goal lineCricket is a popular summer sport in Britain. There are many cricket clubs in the country. Cricket players wear a certain uniform — white boots, a white T-shirt and white trousers. One cricket game takes a terribly long time. There are two teams of 11 players each and test matches between national teams can last up to 5 days. The spectators have to be very patient. The game is played on a pitch with a wicket at each end. The rules of the game have changed over the years. It is a game which is associated with long sunny summer afternoons, the smell of new-mown grass and the sound of leather ball beating the willow cricket bat. Cricket is more popular among men, but it is also played by women and girls. Tennis is another favourite sport of the Englishmen. People all over the world know Wimbledon which is the centre of lawn tennis. It is the oldest tennis tournament in the world considered by many people to be the most prestigious. It takes place over two weeks in late June and early July. Golf is a game of business community. In Great Britain it is very common to establish good business relations playing golf. The equipment for this game is quite expensive as well as the entrance to a prestigious golf club, so not everyone can afford it. Golf is a ball and golf stick game played on a natural field.
